Making your own block ice has always been a cost-effective option for shaved ice business owners, and now itís easier than ever before. Our round block ice molds come with a lid and are made from extremely durable plastic that does well in freezing temperatures.
These molds are easy to stack and each has a sturdy handle for convenient carrying. The round block ice molds make 7.5" diameter ice and up to 7.75" tall with the lid.
We suggest filling the mold about 3/4 of the way full with clean tap water and letting it freeze for 3 days at 10 degrees Fahrenheit. If you freeze the water at a temperature lower than 10 degrees Fahrenheit the ice will expand too rapidly resulting in the ice cracking and possibly breaking the mold. Once your blocks are frozen you may notice cracks but this is a normal process as the water expands during the freeze process. Bulges are common also and may be chipped away easily with an ice pick to create a level surface. The ice block will also look cloudy, this is perfectly normal.
We recommend using a standard chest freezer when making your own ice. You may need to purchase a thermometer to install in your freezer to ensure that the freezer is at 10 degrees Fahrenheit.
It's important to let the ice temper for 10-15 minutes - this way the ice will transform to a fine and fluffy snow when shaved.
